Back on Track and a Happy Birthday to Me!

Standard

Hey everyone!  Today I turn 24 and I feel a big shift in my life coming… or maybe I’m easing into the flow that has been swift and steady since last year.

This is how I celebrate things in Denver. With flannel. Lots of flannel. And beards.

This year I have decided to set 24 goals – some easy, some a one-and-done concept, and others a year-long endeavor.  They are listed below, in no particular order… as I complete them I will cross them out, and hopefully post about them too!

Thanks for coming with me on this journey and holding me accountable!

Catching Up and Holding On

Standard

Hey everyone.  It has been a month and a day since my last post… so many amazing things have happened, but not everything has been rainbows and sunshine either.  I have seriously been struggling with the depression of not getting a job, and it is taking a toll on my motivation!

Last night, however, my vigor and energy was renewed!  After meeting with my aunt, and being reminded that positive things come to those who project positive energy… I have decided to revert back to my days of daily inspirational emails and share some of my favorite image and quote combos!

Also, feel free to scroll down and check out my stated intentions for the blog!

Cabin Fever!!

Standard

Hey there everyone!

Today I need to speak about a very serious and real issue that occurs when you move.  This post will be most relevant for individuals who move from one city to another, rather than within the same city and/or community.  Additionally, I guess this post could really help anyone who is just looking for another way to meet people or to find a new social scene.

I’m talking about getting the heck out of your house and meeting new people!  After days of organizing, cleaning, sleeping for unnecessarily long periods of time, and watching the cats run and slide all over the hard wood floor – it’s time to break out of your shell and leave the house!  Otherwise you start doing things like this:

And let’s face it.  People judge this kind of behavior.  Harshly.  After these types of things no one really looks at you the same.  They might say they do… but do you really believe that?  I mean really?

But alas!  How can you avoid this type of ridiculousness when you are in a new place?  When the Big Z and I moved here we knew exactly no people.  That was two weeks ago… and today I am happy to report that we still know exactly no people, but that we did meet some nice people last night whom we’d like to get to know better!  We went to our first Denver meetup, and boy did we luck out!

Three Days of Design

Standard

Image

Three days ago we moved into our lovely new one bedroom apartment!  While it is considerably smaller than what we had in Philadelphia, it suits our needs just fine.  With lovely hardwood floors in the galley kitchen and living room area, and a SUPER plush carpet in the bedroom we are very pleased.  However, when we moved into the apartment our boxes and some thrifted furniture bought in Colorado Springs took up all the space.  I wasn’t quite sure how we would get everything in the apartment… and I was even more unsure after we went to Ikea and bought the things we absolutely needed… like a mattress and shelf.   The above before pictures don’t quite tell the whole story, but at a little less than 500 sq ft… organizing and decorating this apartment will be a challenge.

Luckily, I am absolutely up to the challenge!  After day one was complete… here is what the apartment looked like!

Getting Started… Road Trip RE-cap!

Standard

First post!  Let’s go crazy!

Okay.  Well maybe not crazy, but hey… why don’t we re-cap the journey we took to get here (West Wash Park) from West Philly!

To start… at 2 am on August 10th we lit our final sparklers left over from a super fun summer, and took off into the proverbial sunset.

Image

Our first stop after leaving Philly was in Columbus Ohio…  luckily it was lunch time and the Big Z was able to get a delicious Skyline lunch!

Then it was back to driving!  And driving we did!  For hours and hours and hours, until we reached Indianapolis!  Then it was sleepy time… and then more driving!

Image

Luckily, we had three co-pilots that made the trip more interesting!

Image

Not to mention, they sure were inquisitive and learned how to drive quickly.  Greybeard and Twinkie were checking the side mirrors as Stripes waited by the pedals for the go-ahead.

Luckily after only one more night layover in Kansas City, we made it to the Colorado border where we were greeted by an amazing welcome center where we took some really fantastic brochures and pictures!  Too bad stopping here made us realize just how much further we had left to go!

Image

Not surprisingly though, we made it to Colorado Springs safe and sound where we stayed with friends for a few days and spent time looking for an apartment and settling in to Colorado!

And then… only a few days after arriving into the state… we found our new place!  YAY!  And thus, this past Monday, we made our way to West Washington Park… affectionately known as West Wash Park, a neighborhood of Denver located near (and named by) Washington Park.  We have spent the past three days moving in, and soon I will post pictures of the the day to day before and after’s.  One of the things that I get to work on right now, since I don’t have a job yet, is decorating and designing the apartment in a way that is pleasing to the eyes, and makes the place feel like home!  I didn’t really get the chance to do that fully in Philadelphia, so this is an opportunity!

Alright… off to go do more unpacking and organizing!
